About My Vehicle Maintenance

We're Ari and Rachel Te Tau — a husband-and-wife team running a family-owned mechanic workshop in Masterton. We believe in doing things properly, treating people well, and looking after your vehicle like it's our own.

Our story

Ari and Rachel founded My Vehicle Maintenance with a simple goal — to create a workshop where people actually enjoy bringing their car. Ari is a fully qualified mechanic with over 20 years in the automotive industry and holds WOF certification with the NZ Transport Agency. He's worked on everything from Japanese imports and European cars to 4WDs, diesels, and hybrids. Rachel handles the accounts, staff wellness, payroll, and overall running of the business — she's taken on the CEO role and is always looking for ways to improve how MVM operates. The front-of-house experience is led by service advisers Cody and Jenni, who are the main people you'll see and talk to when you visit. Together, the team has built a loyal customer base across Masterton and the wider Wairarapa by doing honest work at fair prices and treating every customer like a neighbour, not a number.

Honest and transparent

We give you clear quotes with no hidden costs. If something can wait, we'll tell you. If it can't, we'll explain exactly why.

Quality workmanship

Our team stays on top of modern automotive technology through ongoing training and upskilling. Every job is done to a high standard using quality parts.

Customer care

We treat every vehicle as if it were our own. Our service advisers Cody and Jenni make sure the experience is easy and stress-free from the first phone call to picking up your keys.

Community focus

We're a local, family-owned business and proud to support our community. We'd rather build long-term relationships than chase one-off jobs.

Common questions about our workshop

How much does a WOF cost?

WOF inspection at our workshop is $80, or $50 for a trailer. If your vehicle needs repairs to pass, we'll give you a separate quote for that work before we start — no surprises.

Will servicing with you void my new-car warranty?

Not at all. Under New Zealand consumer law, you can have your vehicle serviced at any qualified workshop without affecting your manufacturer warranty — as long as the service is done to the manufacturer's schedule using approved parts and fluids. We do exactly that.

How often should I get my car serviced?

Most manufacturers recommend every 10,000 to 15,000 kilometres or every 6 to 12 months, whichever comes first. We can check your logbook and let you know exactly what's due.

Do you work on all makes and models?

Yes — Japanese, European, Australian, Korean, and domestic. We work on petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric vehicles. If it's got wheels and an engine (or a motor), we can help.

Can I get a WOF and a service done at the same time?

Absolutely. It's a smart way to do it — we can combine the WOF inspection with your scheduled service so you only need to drop the car off once.

Do you offer a mobile mechanic service?

Yes. If your vehicle can't make it to our workshop, we can come to you across the wider Wairarapa — Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Featherston, and Martinborough. We bring diagnostic tools and common parts to handle on-site repairs.

What are your opening hours?

We're open Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. We're closed Friday through Sunday. You can book online anytime and we'll confirm your appointment.
